Ray Lewis of the Baltimore Ravens

Despite only being a football fanatic for the past three years, I chose the Baltimore Ravens as my team ten years ago. I chose them for two reasons: 1. Black and purple are awesome colors and 2. I knew of one of the players. I had watched Ray Lewis’ murder trial and I had felt the entire time that he was innocent. My feelings proved to be spot on when the charges were dropped once he decided to testify against his friends. Ray Lewis’ career has been Hall of Fame worthy. He is considered one of the best linebackers in the league. Earlier this year (right before the playoffs) Ray announced his retirement. After 17 years in the NFL, 17 years with the Baltimore Ravens, Ray is finally ready to move on.

Imagine everyone’s surprise when the Ravens breeze through the playoffs and make it to the Super Bowl. It started with the Indianapolis Colts. No one had a difficult time believing we could win that game. They did believe, however, that we would fail against our next opponents, the Denver Broncos (led by Peyton Manning). We didn’t fail. And we didn’t fail against the New England Patriots despite very little support from the football world. Now experts across the spectrum believe the San Francisco 49s will defeat us at the Super Bowl.

Maybe under normal circumstances I’d say they have a shot. I love my team but I know they can lose focus at times or psych themselves out. This year they have extra motivation. They have something no other team has or will ever have. They have a retiring Ray Lewis. The time is almost here to either put up or shut up. Honestly, whether my boys win or not, just making it to the Super Bowl and proving everyone wrong has  been an awesome experience. Witnessing Ray Lewis’ last fairy tale ride has been an awesome experience and I have never been more proud to call myself a Raven’s fan. May the best team win at the Super Bowl. I’ll be glued to my t.v the entire time, rooting for one of the greatest players to ever grace a NFL field to obtain a second ring before moving on with his life.

Farewell, Ray. Your legacy will be remembered.

spool table ornate

I have been obsessed with repurposing/upcycling lately. The idea of turning something old into something new and using it for something completely different is fascinating and something I hadn’t realized my parents did as I was growing up. We had a fence made out of pallets for the longest time and tables made from old wire spools are prevalent in my childhood memories. The act of recycling items around the home for various purposes isn’t new at all; it’s just become “trendy”. The following is a list of the different ways to make tables out of stuff you can either get cheap or you may already have lying around your home.

walking-dead-marathonIt’s become trendy, loving zombies or zombie related things. Hell, even the CDC has taken advantage of the pop culture phenomenon. Check out their page on Zombie Preparedness at http://www.cdc.gov/phpr/zombies.htm. Zombie memorabilia has popped up all over the place and zombie artwork/signage is all the rage. I won’t lie, I love The Walking Dead and can’t wait for it’s return in February. I spent a little time online this morning pouring over random zombie related sites and found some pretty cool things to share.

I wasn’t sure I was going to post this. As I sit here writing this post I still don’t know if I’ll go through with it.

Disclaimer: The views and opinions expressed in this video are not mine. I did not make this video and hold no claim to it whatsoever.

The following video is basically a conspiracy theory. It makes assumptions based on facts that don’t add up. One thing in the video has already been debunked. It’s interesting. That’s why I’m posting it. After viewing it I agree that something is fishy. I just don’t know if I agree with the conspiracy theory as a whole.

Anyway, if you choose to watch it do so with an open mind. Don’t take news media at face value and don’t take this at face value. Never let anyone tell you what to think.

When I decided to create a blog I checked out Tumbler first. I didn’t like it. I then came to WordPress. I liked the dashboard and the options of WordPress. I created the blog and left it before checking out Blogspot/Blogger. For creative freedom, Blogger is the place to go. You can design a template from scratch or use code from a predesigned one and paste into a box to override what is already there. These options for creative freedom almost kept me there. Anyone who knows me, knows I will create things just to design them. I’m a design freak.

That being said, Blogger is run by Google and I don’t like the dashboard. I hate it, actually. So I gave up some creative freedom and shut down my blog on Blogger and came back to WordPress. I have just spent the last two hours trying to create a design I like with the limited options available on WordPress (I can get all the options I want if I upgrade for $30 a year but I’ll wait on that). I’m not there yet but what’s here now will suffice until I have more time to obsess over it. For now, homework calls.

UPDATE: I finished my homework early and got the chance to work on the design some more. I believe I’ve finally got it the way I want it. For now anyway 😉

Everyone seems to have a blog these days so I thought why not me? Why not now? I have a little spare time and I love writing. This blog will really just be whatever I decide to throw up here. I do have some things in mind such as organic product reviews, awesome new bands I’m digging, and a soon to come Bucket List category.

A little about me. I’m 30 and in college. I love college and I don’t see myself ever being done with it. I’ll get my degrees of course but I’ll always go back. There’s way too much I want to learn. I have recently become an avid fan of organic health and beauty products. I’m on a mission to sample the market on somewhat of a budget. I think that’s the main thing that drives people away from shopping for more body conscious and earth friendly products: the price. I’ll do the research and post the results here. That’s mainly why I am starting this blog.

Stick with me and learn about cool stuff. Modern Hippie Girl aims to provide education, good music, beautiful art, and perhaps a hot guy or two thrown in for fun ;).
